WORKSHOP: Sashiko, the Basics
WORKSHOP: Sashiko, the Basics
Join us at Studio Boter for an introductory workshop surrounding Sashiko, a Japanese mending technique.
During this 2-hour workshop you will learn and practice the basics of a Japanese mending technique called Sashiko. A centuries old technique used to strengthen worn fabrics to extend the life of clothing. This method is not only functional, it also provides a unique decoration created by you. We will provide you with the basics to get started, like how to start and finish your stitch lines (no knotting needed), along with the proper way to execute your stitch lines.
Then move forward with practicing a basic pattern on a scrap swatch. You will be provided with a sashiko needle, sashiko thread, and a water soluble pattern you can apply to a piece of clothing to execute this technique at home. And feel free to bring the piece of clothing you want to fix if you would like to discuss the best way to mend it. And know, this is a technique for woven fabric and its best to learn on a thick woven like denim. Keep this in mind when choosing the piece of clothing you would like to mend.
If you would like to join, register now, spots are limited!!
